Re: A Must Read

I have just read this book By Janet MacLeod Trotter.  Anybody that travelled the Overland route from London to India will be able to relate to many of the places mentioned in the book. It is a book that is very hard to put down once you start reading it.

Thanks Col. Finished it last night. Nice story built around what we did every day. Interesting to see what someone could do with what we did. I wish that I had got to the lakes at Band-i-amir.

Re: A Must Read

Kit,
I thought that it was a good story as well. Yes it was a pity that many of us never got to visit Band-i-amir. We were very lucky to have been able to visit Afghanistan, not much chance of doing it now or ever again in our life time.

I just had my turn at reading the book. For most of the story names of places, hotels and campgrounds went down like another toasted marshmallow on a cold wintery night, how soothing. As I read I wondered how much of Janet was in Juliet and visa verse. As I read about familiar territory the central story carried me into the next chapter, which by the way made it easy to read, cut up into these small chapters.

My goodness I had some ups and downs with passengers but nothing like this. I think I could account for just about all my passengers at the end of each trip, even if a few felt like getting off. If you read this book it just backs up the plight of being a tour driver/courier, oh! it was such a hard life we hated every minute of it, didn't we?

I had difficulties trying to purchase the book in bookstores so I ordered it online for $20, $20 well spent.

Vicar,
I had to order it online as well. I think I paid about $20 for it, a little extra for delivery from memory.
I agree with you, a great story.
